Welcome to the League of AISG

The extremely popular MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena), League of Legends, has been around since 2009 and became a global gaming phenomenon ever since. With millions of players throughout all ages and across the world logging onto over 13 servers everyday to battle on the fields of justice, it’s safe to say that League of Legends is nothing short of contagious. After 3 years, this “contagion” known as League of Legends finally infected AISG in 2012 as Lion Lee, a junior at that time, started what came to be known as AISG’s game night. Alas after only two years, AISG’s game night came to a halt as the new organizer (*cough *Brandon Bott *cough) failed to set up the event. What began as a League of Legends tournament that almost fell out of existence became assimilated into AISG’s house competition. Thanks to 11th Grade STUCO Vice President, Tomoka Yamada (Who also introduced a new house competition, Call of Duty 4, which is on the same day as League of Legends), this year’s League of Legends tournament returns in the form of an E-Sports House Competition on March 16th, drawing in the attention of many AISG summoners.

In previous years, the League of Legends tournament was held on NA servers, but this year it returns on the CN server (Ionia). With more than 10 new champions added to the champion pool since the last League of Legends tournament, this year’s competition is sure to be an interesting one. Since 2014, League of Legends’ gameplay has shifted and evolved a lot, with many new changes in items and abilities.

As the League of Legends competition draws near, many summoners both new and returning have many things to say about this year’s competition. Junior and returning summoner, Eric Huang says, “I am happy that the League of Legends game night competition is finally back again (DAMN BACK AT IT WITH THOSE CHAMPION SKINS AGAIN, sorry, had to do that) after an unsuccessful one last year. This is a great chance to have a friendly competition that is not a physical sport to participate in. Let’s go guys!” On the other hand, AISG Alumni and member of the champion team of AISG’s League of Legends tournament in 2013-14, Sean Hu says, “I just showered and it was a great experience for me and my friends. We experienced teamwork at its purest ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)”.

Reminiscing back to the year of 2014, the champion team had a lineup of: Yingmun Chin (Junior) taking top lane, Sean Hu (Junior) taking jungle, Garuav Lalwani (Junior) taking mid lane, Minhyun Lee (Junior) taking bottom lane as ADC, and Han Tay (Sophomore) taking bottom lane as support. Whilst the runner-ups had a lineup of: Mark Cheng (Freshman) taking top lane, Jaewoo Park (Freshman) taking jungle, Nino Lee (Freshman) taking mid lane, Joon Ha Cha (Freshman) taking bottom lane as ADC, and Eric Huang (Freshman) taking bottom lane as support. Many of the finalists of 2013-14 have left, but some remain. Now after a year’s hiatus, Mark Cheng, Nino Lee, and Eric Huang have been training harder than ever and are back to compete for the top at AISG’s League of Legends Competition. Now after two years, they enter with their new line up: Kenny Lau (Junior) taking top lane, Jacky Yip (Junior) taking jungle, Mark Cheng (Junior) taking mid lane, Nino Lee (Junior) taking bottom lane as support, and Eric Huang (Junior) taking bottom lane as support.
