Open mic night is in sight and there is a lot of anticipation for this fabulous event. Open mic night takes place on the evening of Friday, November 11th. If you are not sure what open mic night is and are still wondering whether you should come, continue reading to find out more. I was able to interview Lynn Maekawa, who is the coordinator of this event, to ask her a few questions about the event.
Maekawa explained that, “open mic night is basically a karaoke event where anyone and everyone can sign up and sing or perform.” It certainly sounds like a fun event and everyone who is interested in performing should sign up so they do not miss out on this opportunity.
When I asked Maekawa what the difference is between open mic night and the talent show, she said, “The talent show has auditions which means not everyone can perform, but the open mic night is open for everyone and there is usually unlimited spots; it’s also a good event for those who are afraid to perform in front of people to take a step in preparation for the talent show.”
It should be a full house as more people continue to sign up because Lynn Maekawa said, “I’m Pleasantly surprised by how many people have signed up because there are almost three sheets filled and I’m extremely happy about that. I think it’s going to be an event filled with fun.”
Maekawa requests that students who have signed up send their music files to her as soon as possible so there will be fewer technical problems during the event.
For those who are going to come and watch, make sure to get your tickets within the next week so you do not miss out on the wonderful night filled with awesome performances. Also, remember that StuCo is trying out a new location for open night as it will be held in the amphitheater to provide a cozy and warm feeling; bean bags will be placed around to make sure everyone stays comfy.
